Subsidies

Unfortunately there aren't many subsidies available. To qualify for them certain criteria must be met. Below is an outline of possible subsidies or tax rebates. This is indicative only and you should check with the relevant authorities.

Work and Income New Zealand

WINZ provides financial assistance for home help under the following circumstances:

- When you are expecting twins and you have another child... ..under your care who is under 5 years of age
- When you are expecting triplets or higher multiples
- When there is a domestic emergency

The number of hours subsidised depends on the situation. The amount of this subsidy is about $13.70 per hour at the moment. You can hire your own help. Please do check these hours and the amount as it could have changed.

Inland Revenue Department (IRD)

The IRD offers a rebate for housekeeper and/or childcare costs. The rebate for a housekeeper is 33% up to a maximum of $310 a year.

This rebate is only available for people that have earned taxable income in that tax year and were disabled or physically unable to do their own housework. It could also be available to solo parents.

When asked if recovering from a ceasarean section is grounds for being physically unable to do housework Pepsicles was told it is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
